The Race Card

Monday, November 20th, 2006

So now that the Massachusetts gubernatorial race is over and Deval Patrick has been deemed the Governor Elect, I have a few things I need to yap about. I’m not happy Deval Patrick won. This man is the consummate politician in that he’s too-smooth, a great orator and willing to agree (or at least seem to agree) with anyone and everyone in order to get a vote. Sure, he may have come from common roots, but he’s been living an anything-but-common lifestyle (which he worked hard to earn, no argument there) for many years so the whole, “I’m a man of the people” schtick is just that. He’s the definition of tax-and-spend Democrat and I think that the MA economy is in trouble. Plus the fact that his election returns us to single-party rule bodes ill for true representative government (just witness the Federal government over the last 6 years). But you know what never bothered me about Deval Patrick? The fact that he’s black. (more…)

That Was The Suck

Saturday, November 18th, 2006

So as I mentioned in my previous post, there’s a new Irish Pub/Sports Bar that opened just up the street from me. Well, after napping in my recliner (this activity replaced my video game activity) and waking up in the third quarter of the Michigan/Ohio State game, I decided I’d head up that way for some dinner and a few drinks. If the place was good, I’d stick around for the Cal/USC game. (more…)

Vacation

Saturday, November 18th, 2006

Today is the first day of my Thanksgiving vacation. I think I need to spend some time doing absolutely nothing and trying to recover from work (knowing, unfortunately, that work is only going to be even more hectic when I get back to the office: immediately go on-call and prepare for the multitude of releases/hotfixes that have been scheduled for the end of the year plus the absolutely massive release, probably another 18+ hour day, scheduled for mid-January. I kinda wish I didn’t know how to read a calendar so I could stay ignorant of how much work is ahead of me). (more…)

Single Party Rule

Wednesday, November 08th, 2006

The irony is thick…sorry, change that to idiocy. Massachusetts is a liberal, Democrat-friendly state. The Democrats have had majority control of the State House for as long as I can remember. Usually the people vote in a Republican governor to offset the Democrat’s stranglehold on local politics. Not so this year. Deval Patrick, that smoothest of orators from Chicago, is now Governor of Massachusetts by a wide margin. That’s fine. Most people in this state think former Governor Romney was some kind of monster, but he got this state with a massive deficit and he’s leaving it with a massive surplus…let’s see where we are when Patrick gets done spending. I will concede that Romney was only half-here most of his term, because he decided the Oval Office was his next goal, but he’d done a lot of work and had to fight against a State House that would attack just to attack because he was Republican. I’d get tired of that BS too. But what’s most idiotic (or ironic) is that so many Massachusetts citizens over the last several years have been cry-cry-crying their eyes out over the fact that we have had single-party rule at the Federal level. Hell, I am also virulently anti-single party rule and have derided the way the Fed Government has been run for years. So what’s the idiocy? Massachusetts is now SINGLE PARTY RULE! 87% majority Democrat State House, Democrat Governor, Democrat AG, Treasurer, etc., etc., etc. I guess it’s OK when it’s your party in charge of everything. I need to leave the ghetto and move out of state, because I can no longer handle the hypocrisy…that and my taxes are about to go through the roof, I’m sure. Oh, and my Second Amendment rights are about to get shit upon. Yay! Single-party rule! …Assholes.

Work/Life Balance

Wednesday, November 01st, 2006

I can only assume it has something to do with me, and not the job. It doesn’t seem to matter where I work, because I always find a way to make the work the ruler of my life. It’s good to have a strong work ethic, but it’s nutty to sacrifice everything else in life to the work. That said, the latest drama in my work life has nothing to do with me and everything to do with poor management and decision making at the higher levels. (more…)
