Happily The Snitch

Monday, August 28th, 2006

It’s been a long 7 days for a fella, what with all the demands of work. Tonight, no longer on-call and ready to have a few drinks (a fella’s been on the wagon again, just to make sure he can still get onboard) I decided to have me some steak at a chain restaurant (sadly, not Mortons, but good enough for the price). I had a decent sirloin, a couple of Sam Adams and headed out to the parking for the drive home. As I’m walking through the parking lot, somone in a large, gold pickup truck with a cab on the back (effectively an SUV, since it’s one of those dealies with the 4 seats up front) starts backing up and maneuvering out of their space. Instead of backing fully out and heading up the lane, they back up only enough to wind their way through an open spot diagonally in front of them. Only problem is that, just like most people who own trucks/SUVs (in my opinion), they don’t know the size of their vehicle. With a crunching noise, they run up against a parked Volvo. (more…)

PBS Joins the Kiyosaki Cult?

Saturday, August 19th, 2006

Technically I can’t really give PBS too bad a time, because they offer so much good stuff that the occasional piece of crap should really be allowed to slide. I mean, how else could I stay up into the wee hours, show up to work an hour late and explain to my coworkers that I got sucked into a show about String Theory and had a tough time waking up the next morning? That being said, it’s particularly sad to see PBS eagerly promoting Robert Kiyosaki and his book/motivational presentation “Rich Dad, Poor Dad”. If only PBS had done a little research before booking this guy, perhaps they might have had some second thoughts. Then again, despite the obvious problems with Kiyosaki’s work, the fact that he sells a ridiculous number of his “Rich Dad, Poor Dad” books and is a popular motivational speaker must have been a strong temptation for PBS; what better way to get people to shell out some cash during donation drives than pimping this guys’ work, books and DVDs? Mass. Gubernatorial Race

Thursday, August 17th, 2006

Massachusetts is in the middle of a gubernatorial race featuring the Republican candidate, current Lietuenant Governor Kerry Healey; an Independent, Christy Mihos; and three Democrats: current Attorney General Tom Reilly, Deval Patrick and Chris Gabrieli. I have some pretty strong opinions on some candidates, and am looking into the others to form new opinions. Suffice it to say that I’m not overly impressed with any of them. My focus today, however, is on Chris Gabrieli, if for no other reason that his television ads piss off. (more…)
