A Day Without Immigrants

According to CNN, the business world is preparing for a strike/boycott/walkout by all illegal immigrants in the US and their supporters. Everyone and their brother has made their points about the immigration question, and my beliefs are not different enough to be a big deal. Suffice it to say that I support immigration, but demand that it be done legally.

That being said, here’s one of my favorite quotes of the article (by favorite, I mean starts me ranting):

[Juan Jose Gutierrez, national coordinator of Latino Movement USA] compares their struggle with that of American colonists against British rule more than 200 years ago.

“The great slogan of the American Revolution was ‘No Taxation Without Representation,’” he said. “Millions of human beings today and for many years are being taxed, and they have absolutely no representation. In fact, they are being bashed every day and humiliated.”

Are you kidding me? It’s hard to claim taxation without representation WHEN ILLEGALS DON’T PAY TAXES! You cannot claim that veing verbally bashed and humiliated equals 30% of your income, so you best stay away from Revolutionary War slogans. I think you’ll find that a lot of that bashing and humiliation will go away when illegals finally START paying their taxes!

Hell, just to have them start paying for the services they use would be nice. $190 million losses at hospitals on the borders because of unrecovered costs for care of illegals? Then the Feds step in and help out? Where the hell do you think the Fed gets their money? MY WALLET! And the bank accounts of every taxpaying citizen. And when the kids say they’re going to walk out of their classes, so the fuck what? It’s not like you or your parents are paying the taxes that keep those schools open! Maybe classes sizes will drop and teachers will be better able to connect with their classes when they don’t have to babysit all the arrogant fucks who refuse to learn the language of the country. Can you morons begin to understand why people are pissed off at your bullshit rallying cries?

I’m not claiming that illegal immigrants aren’t working and supporting the economy (although there’s plenty of evidence that we’re getting a lot of hardcore criminals in across our porous borders as well), but the fact is that they need to do more than just work a job, they need to support the infrastructure of public services that they depend upon to survive, just like the rest of us do. Or we need to abolish public services altogether so that only insurance and cash will cover the bills (and that’s a whole different argument with tons of pitfalls).

Immigrants need to stop demanding that we change the rules of the game just to meet their needs. Yes, this country was founded upon immigration, but those immigrants all learned the English language, fought in American wars, and became citizens of this country legally. Is it so much to ask that the immigrants of today do the same?

Just a note: if I ever decided to move my country of citizenship to Spain or France or Mexico or Russia, you know what I’d do? Immigrate LEGALLY and LEARN THE GODDAMNED LANGUAGE! I don’t believe it’s my right to put out of the people of my new host country, so why the christ do you people think this way?
