Back on the Soap Box

To the three people who actually read this site: sorry for the inactivity. I was on vacation then absolutely flooded at work upon my return. Now that I’ve got a better handle on things, I’ll be getting back to the blogging. By the way, I’m getting a better handle on things by implementing the planning philosophy known as Getting Things Done, or GTD. I even built myself a cool Hipster PDA (although, technically it’s a PAA, but I won’t quibble).

If you’re anything like me, you love the gadgets but oftentimes find yourself not using them once their ineffectiveness becomes apparent (PDAs are cool, but they don’t integrate with my kind of work). The Hipster PDA allows for modification to whatever work one does and, in my case, acts like a mini-notebook for recording ideas, tasks, thoughts and anything else that pops into my twisted little mind.

I integrated my Franklin Covey planning system (I’ve been a Franklin Covey planner guy for over a decade now), specifically the software PlanPlus for XP, with concepts from GTD and am loving the melding of the two. PlanPlus is good software and allows me to customize it on many levels (personalized tabs for @Office, @Home, @Calls, etc.) an provides excellent search functionality (which is important in my job, because I’m oftentimes called upon to prove that I’ve done a task or completed a project). I’m liking the mix of these two concepts and I’ve been applying it for both work and home (my filing systems in both place are so pretty now, it’s amazing).

Anywho, enough of the cultish planning talk. I’ll be getting back on the soapbox in the coming days as I’ve got a few things stewing in my cranium.
