A Quandry for the Bush Administration

Democratic conspiracy theories are being left at the door of this post. Democrats and Republicans are both equally as at fault for lying to and misleading the American public (who should take some friggin’ responsibility and stop voting for the bastards and start looking for truthful candidates…if there are any left). However, I find it interesting that during the Clinton presidency, the Republicans focused a great deal of mudslinging on the lies of Slick Willy. So my question is: now that it appears that members of the Bush administration have been caught lying, will Bush take responsibility and do as he promised?

All this drama stems from the Valerie Plame scandal. Valerie Plame, a CIA operative working on WMDs, is the wife of former Ambassador Joseph C. Wilson, who published an opinion piece in the NY Times accusing the Bush administration of misrepresenting intelligence reports to justify a war in Iraq. Plame had her cover blown in an article by syndicated columnist, Robert Novak, as well as magazines like Time. The belief was that her cover was blown in retaliation for Wilson’s article. It was also hinted that Karl Rove, in a fit of Machaivellian maneuvering, was the one who leaked her information, putting her, as a CIA operative, in mortal danger. The White House vigorously denied any involvement from their end and Bush, back in June of 2004, pledged to fire anyone in his administration who leaked the information.

Well, it’s come to light that it was, indeed, Mr. Rove working his magic. Apparently, Mr. Rove gave up the dirt in an email to Time columnist, Matthew Cooper.

So if everything above is proven true, will President Bush live up to his promise? Considering Karl Rove (again, conspiracy theories aside) has been an extremely valuable asset to the Bush administration, it may be difficult to sever the ties completely. Still, Bush and his crew have been stomping on their soapbox since 2003 denying any White House involvement and threatening prosecution and termination of employment of any White House employee caught leaking such sensitive information. Can Bush take responsibility for his statements and do the difficult thing? Then again, Bush can’t take responsibility for diverting the nation’s military resources from the war on terror to Iraq for his own personal and political reasons, so I guess I can’t expect much.

It’s all spin, regardless. I’m sure the so-called Conservatives will soon be spitting out bile and vitriol against the so-called Liberals, claiming it’s a conspiracy. Much like the Libs did to the Cons back in the Clinton days. Both groups are nothing more than overgrown children battling over toys on the playground, except their toys are people’s lives. I wish I could offer up some constructive advice or criticism, but I’m so tapped out by the idiocy of our “representatives” and the ridiculous name-calling by both sides that I can’t even think straight. I think I’ll just take a gander at the Federalist Papers and dream of what might have been.
